Look who's walking too!!!
Well it's official! Lucas has just realized he doesn't need mommy to hold his hand or skirt anymore to walk. He has been taking lots of steps off and on today and I can barely hold in my excitement! He's growing up so fast. He turned 1 on August 22 so it's pretty awesome we will see what happens in the next few days to see if he keeps it up ;).
We go to the dr. again next week to find out what they suggest doing about his lymph nodes behind his left ear which have been swollen for 3 months now. Last time the dr. just told us to wait it out so...we did and they are still there so the next appointment is quickly approaching on the 12th. I would like to know what is going on but it scares me that they are considering doing surgery. But God has it all under control and I know it will work out as he planned it to.
We love you all!!!

Talk to me baby!
One of the things that I have looked forward to since Lucas was born was for him to talk to me. At nearly 3 years old his vocabulary is that of maybe an 18 month old. It is difficult for him to communicate what he needs or wants. Mostly Lucas uses gestures to let us know what he is wanting. We use words with him, we read with him, we talk to him (not baby talk), we try to get him to say words back to us, but it isn't working well. With his hearing problems it's like he is hearing under water, everything is muffled so he talks as such if he does talk. Mostly all Lucas does is babble...yes at nearly 3 my son still talks like a baby. I would give anything to hear him speak clearly to have him tell me what he needs. So...I took him to be evaluated for speech therapy, and he was approved...under certain conditions. The speech pathologist believes Lucas has something called Apraxia which means that there's a miscommunication in his brain and it hinders him from speaking although he can understand clearly. He has a severe annunciation disorder. So as for now he will be set up for speech therapy for 2 days a week 30 minutes a session. Then when his pediatrician diagnoses him with Apraxia then he will go to 3 days a week. However, in August Lucas turns 3 so he will age out of the Child Program he was just accepted into. But they will help me and set me up so I can apply to put Lucas in preschool because of his needs.
Another thing the speech pathologist suggests is sign language. I have always been fascinated with signing. I just never thought I would have to learn to sign in order to communicate with my son. I never thought I would be on this road. I know God is in control therefore we will just work with this and pray God helps us.
One year later!!!
Here we go...It's been over a year since my last post. Since then Lucas has grown into a remarkable and intelligent young man. He can use a computer or tablet with little problems. He knows what he wants and when he wants it. He still loves cars and trains and airplanes. He plays with his cars daily, mostly all day. He likes the movie The Croods, Frozen, Up, Cars, Despicable Me 1 and 2 and he likes to watch Rabbids Invasion (although I don't really like him watching it).
Lucas is now 2 years and 7 months old. He is tall for his age and his weight is remaining steady. He still has yet to receive his first haircut though. Although Lucas is able to understand what you say and to follow commands thoroughly he is still having problems with his ears. Since his surgery last year he has had at least another 6 ear infections. We found out this week that he has a condition in which he produces thick ear wax. That being said the tubes that he currently has in his ears are clogged and filled with wax. Therefore April 14, 2014 we will yet again be taking Lucas into surgery to get new bigger tubes in his ears. On top of the ear problems, Lucas' tonsils are swollen and speckled with white pockets so he is on antibiotics again and a steroid. I am hoping that his tonsils go back to normal soon, that he doesn't wake in the middle of the night gasping for air and snoring like a grizzly bear.
With all of this that is going on we know God is in control. We aren't going to worry, we are just going to give it all to God and trust that He will take care of it.
